Brera/Music in Tokyo
The idea for the Brera/Music project took its cue from the most important musical document testifying to the union of music and painting: Franz Liszt’s Années de pèlérinage. Liszt composed the piece after seeing Raphael’s Marriage of the Virgin at Brera for the first time in 1837. Every passage in it is inspired by an Italian work of art, be it a visual work, a work of literature or popular music. They express the complexity of Liszt’s work and his intention to cause all the arts to converge, offering a united, modern vision of the world.
With his outstanding musical talent, Clive Britton retraces the steps of Franz Liszt in the course of the first Brera/Music meeting abroad, in Tokyo, first at the Italian Embassy and then at the Italian Cultural Institute. Britton is accompanied by a screening of images that were the composer’s sources of inspiration.
