The Men are in the Field! Memory of Venice, 1869
Mosè Bianchi - Oil on canvas - cm 149 x 104
The painting was displayed in 1869 at the annual exhibition at the Pinacoteca with the title The Men are in the Field! Memory of Venice. On that occasion, it was acquired by the Ministry of Education and bequested to the Academy of Brera. The subject is inspired by the third independence war for the liberation of Venice (1866). There are clear, patriotic allusions of the Risorgimento shown by the colours of the three young ladies’ vests, which refer to the colours of the Italian flag (red, white, and green).
