Still Life with Pumpkin, Pears and Walnuts, 1750 - 1760

Pitocchetto (Giacomo Ceruti) - Oil on canvas - cm 43 × 59

A many-sided artist, Ceruti painted religious pictures, portraits and mythological scenes but is best known for his paintings realistically recording society’s humblest members. His still-lifes, which rank among Europe’s loftiest creations, also reveal his uncompromisingly realistic vision. Those in the Brera collection were listed among the possessions of Carlo Bianconi, secretary of the Accademia di Belle Arti, on the latter’s death in 1802.
