Raphael and Zhang Zeduan

The documentary entitled Raphael and Zhang Zeduan. A New Take on Perspective manages to perform a seemingly impossible task by bringing together and forging a dialogue between Raphael’s Marriage of the Virgin, dated 1504, and Along the River During the Qingming Festival, painted by Zhang Zeduan shortly before 1186. Adopting a new, in-depth and parallel perspective for both paintings, the documentary invites the viewer to compare the artists’ different ways of portraying time and space and shows that the two pictures are, in fact, far closer to one another than one might think.
